2011 Race Schedule

After a tough couple weeks at work it's nice to have some down time in cold winter Wisconsin.  One of the goals of my little vacation was to plan my 2011 race schedule, to put my goals into practice and have a formula in place for the coming year.

The schedule starts with an aquathon (swim, run) in May, it then includes at least one half marathon, two Olympic distance triathlons and two Half-Iron distance triathlon's.  All of these races are the "bigger" races on the schedule, most likely I will add a few 5 or 10k's, and maybe even another half-marathon.

The "A" race will be the Utah Half in late August with another Half-Ironman (also known as a 70.3, the total distance in miles traveled during the race) in October.  I've debated if I would do one or two 70.3's but in the end figured once I had the base why not do another, an even harder race after the first.  The Utah Half will be a really flat, fast course where I hope I can have a time around 5:30 with the Pumpkinman in October being a much more hilly challenging course where the goal will be just finishing strong.

I've decided to add the aquathon to get over the "mental" hurdle of swimming 1.2 miles.  Once I finish that race the 1.2 mile swim before a 70.3 won't seem so damaging.

All of this is tied to the diabetes with the goal of having an A1C lower than 6.5 by the time I complete the 70.3.  The last few weeks have been hard on the betes, with not being on a training plan and eating a few crazy foods at work, skipping meals a lot of time and eating when I can.  The routine of life should be back now, with regular meals and a training plan beginning on March 6.  Roughly half a year until Utah.  179 days.

April 3 - Carlsbad 5000 (5k race) (Carlsbad, CA)
May 7 - AquaTerra Aquathon - 1.2m swim, 5m run

June 11 - Los Angeles Tri Series Olympic Distance Triathlon - (San Dimas, CA)

  1. i think the the LA Jolla swim you should actually do the REAL GATORMAN the 3 mile swim... Or you could compete for the overall and do the mile and 3 mile race..
